Symptoms-
Some symptoms of blindness are:
  • Impared vision
  • Language imparment
  • Vision loss
  • Poor vision

People it affects:

Blindness affects over 1.3 million Americans in the United States.Over 8.7 million people have ome sort of Visual imparment in the United States. Blindness affects over 37 million people worlwide and over 124 million people are visually impared worldwide also.

Prevention:

There is really no prevention for blindness except trying to avoid Risk factors such as trying to get the right amounts of vitamins and staying healthy. Also you can try to prevent from getting blindness or getting a disease or just hurting your eyes in a way where it hurts or terminates your vision is you can look into your family history, you can wear eye protection when in a workshop working with wood or when you play paintball or Airsoft with your friends outside. One more way you can prevent from losing vision or being blind is never look into the sun too long or somthing very bright for long.

Treatment:

There is no real treatment for loss in vision or blindness because loss in vision or blindness cannot be reversed.


Different types:

There is only a few types of diseases that can cause blindness and types of blindness.
Here are some:

  • Color blindness--Is a group of disorders in which people cannot tell the differance between certain colors such as green and brown,red and pink and or blue and purple.Red-green color blindness is the most common type of color blindness. Total color blindness is extremely rare.
  • Macular Degeneration--Is when an image does not fall directly on the Macula, making it very hard or impossible to read, tell time or even recognize people.
  • Diabetic Retinopathy--This disease is caused by poor Diabetic control.
  • Hypertensive Retinopathy--This disease is caused by severe high blood pressure.
  • Glaucoma--Is caused when fluids build up in the eye and cause too much pressure in the eye and then damage very important nerves in the eye.



Risk Factors:

Some Risk factors for blindness are:
  • Family History
  • Injury(injuries)
  • Looking into sun for too long.
  • Looking at a very bright object for too long.
  • Poor Diabetic controll
  • Severe High blood pressure
  • Certain Infections and Diseases

How can people manage their condition( things they can do to lessen the effects)

Things people can do to lessen the effects of blindness are if you are blind(completely blind) you could:
  • Learn how to use Brail.
  • Get a Dog for help.
  • Get a walking stick.
  • Always have someone with you until you are ready to be on your own.
  • Stay healthy
  • Excercise
